This librarian banned a book

Banned_Books_WeekAs a follow up and final post from this year’s banned books week I offer you this article from Rawstory I’m a librarian who banned a book — here’s why.

“In the library world, access to information is a human right, not to be tampered with or controlled in any way.”

You may not realize how friggen cool librarians are. They may look like regular humans, if a bit subdued, but actually they are superheros and champions of freedom.  Often in the front line of the war on our civil liberties, librarians will champion and defend your right to information, no matter if they agree with your views or not. In fact a good librarian will provide materials to give different viewpoints to those seeking knowledge.

In the digital media age the fact they keep the buildings open and manage to coexist with cellphones and the internet gives proof to their superhero ways. In fact, if you are on the road and need a comfy place to work with access to wifi and power, a local library is an ideal spot. Just remember to be kind. I always donate a few bucks and say thank you. It is money much better spent than on coffee.
