Twelve more days until National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)!!
If you are unfamiliar with the program, you can check out their site, but the basic idea is to just let the words flow to the count of 10,000 in the month of November. You get to hang out with a bunch of cool people, work on your writing, and just enjoy some general madness and fun. Winning is accomplished by completing 10K words by midnight November 30th. This might seem like a big task, but it is doable.
I have been NaNoWriMo -ing for seven years and have won six times. I will admit that one of those wins was with the majority of work taking place in a three-day mega burst of caffeine fueled panic writing getting done seconds before the deadline, but hey, a win is a win. By making the goal difficult but attainable, I am forced to abandon the habit of double checking every little thing I write and just focus on getting the words out. This actually improves my writing overall.
